Our club is dedicated to transmitting the techniques handed down by Leung Sheung, the foremost disciple of Ip Man, the founder of Wing Chun in Hong Kong. Leung Sheung is one of the most respected of Ip Man’s disciples, known as the four significant students (Leung Sheung, Lok Yiu, Chu Shong Tin, and Wong Sheung-Leung), and is also known as the “Biu Zee King” because of his extraordinary ability.
Wing Chun is a folk martial art of South China with a history of approximately 200 to 300 years, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.
It is said to have originated in the Southern Shaolin Temple in Fujian Province, where a nun named Ng Mui taught Shaolin martial arts to a young woman named Yim Wing-Chun, who later systematized the art. Later, the art spread to Foshan, Guangdong Province, where it was further developed.
During the Chinese Civil War, Ip Man, a Wing Chun practitioner, escaped to Hong Kong via Macau. He met Leung Sheung, the chairman of a labor union group, the “Hong Kong Restaurant Workers Union. At Leung Sheung’s request, Ip Man took up a position as a martial arts instructor at the union, and thus the history of Wing Chun began in Hong Kong.
Before the 1950s, no one in Hong Kong knew of Wing Chun, which was hardly seen outside of Hong Kong. Master Ip Man and Leung Sheung laid the foundation of Wing Chun in Hong Kong. Later, Wing Chun spread worldwide through the International movie star Bruce Lee, who became a disciple of Ip Man.
Wing Chun has three forms: Siu Lim Tao, Cham Kiu, and Biu Zee. In addition, we have a wooden dummy practice, six and a half pole, and butterfly knives.
